Gogoro to Phase Out Unlimited Plans with Major Performance-Boost Alternatives

Gogoro’s Taiwanese branch recently announced two service upgrades and new monthly plans in Taiwan in hopes of continuing to optimize the user experience domestically.

In the afternoon prior to its press conference, Gogoro abruptly announced its new options on its official forums. For more details on Gogoro’s Taiwanese offerings, see below.

Free performance boost options

Starting from the June billing cycle, all Gogoro riders are eligible for a free (presumably firmware) upgrade that originally cost $249 monthly. This upgrade ups the vehicle’s torque and gives it a more powerful start.

But this upgrade is applicable to only riders on non-unlimited options. Those who signed up for unlimited monthly plans still need to fork over the $249 per month for the upgrade.

Starting in June, those who are on non-unlimited, non-pay-as-you-go plans can active this upgrade through Gogoro’s official website or smartphone app. Pay-as-you-go customers already have the upgrade unlocked and therefore do not need to take the extra step.

The new monthly plans will start incorporating mileage and discount carryovers

As was hinted at, starting in June, unused mileage from the previous billing cycle can be carried over to the following month. In addition to mileage, however, battery usage discounts can be carried over as well, with the caveat that the discount can be carried over to the following month only.

For instance, unused mileage in June can be carried over to July should riders go over their allotted mileage in July. However, those who either go over or stay within their monthly allotments every month will find this change relatively pointless.

Gogoro will start offering two new high-capacity pay-as-you-go monthly payment options

From June 1, Gogoro will be adding two monthly options for riders with high battery usage needs, that is, a multi-battery plan and a single-battery plan.

Multi-Battery Plan: $1,199 per month, with an initial sign-up bonus of $3,000 in credits upon first exchange of battery. For every subsequent battery exchange, riders will be charged per actual battery usage at a rate of $2.3 per Ah.

Take the Gogoro 2 Plus model for instance. The model can go 1,600 km per month prior to incurring extra fees while on this plan. In addition, riders on this plan are eligible for dynamic discounts on high-capacity GoStations as well as the performance-boost bonus for free. Furthermore, those who sign an 18-month contract receive an additional $300 discount per month, meaning the plan basically comes to about $899 per month.

Single-Battery Plan: $499 per month, with an initial sign-up bonus of $1,300 in credits and a monthly discount of $100 if opting for the contract option. This plan comes with the aforementioned performance-boost bonus as well as a battery fee of $2.3 per Ah.

One might come to the conclusion that the previous unlimited plans are cheaper than the new discounts, and they would be correct. In fact, starting from January 1, 2022, Gogoro will stop offering unlimited contract plans in favor of the current offerings: twin-batteries at $1,199 per month and single-batteries at $499 per month.

Riders who purchased a Gogoro within the past 12 months and paired it with a discounted unlimited plan will be able to continue using their existing plan until the end of the contract period, after which they must pick from the current range of plans.
