Chunghwa Telecom Joins Hands with Ericsson to Establish First Mobile Enterprise Network for Orsted’s Offshore Wind Power in Asia

published: 2022-02-17 9:30

Chunghwa Telecom announced earlier that the company has joined hands with Ericsson on establishing an exclusive enterprise network for the first phase of Orsted’s Greater Changhua South East and South West Offshore Wind Farm. The enterprise network was officially activated a few days back, and is expected to provide excellent offshore communication quality for the engineering team of Orsted that will improve communication efficiency and accelerate offshore construction of wind farms.

As pointed out by Chunghwa Telecom, the first phase of the Greater Changhua South East and South West Offshore Wind Farm is located 35-60km offshore, which exceeds Taiwan’s local mobile network coverage, and that is why Chunghwa Telecom is working with Ericsson on building a mobile broadband network exclusively for enterprises using 900MHz and 1800MHz in order to create an adequate communication environment for the offshore engineering team of Orsted.

Taiwan has laid down an essential target of energy transformation that aims to increase the ratio of power generation through renewable energy to 20% by 2025, and offshore wind power is one of the important development projects for the particular target. The first phase of Orsted’s Greater Changhua South East and South West Offshore Wind Farm is located at the offshore of Changhua, and serves as the first large-scale remote wind farm outside of fairway in Taiwan at a total installed capacity of 900MW. The wind farm is scheduled to complete construction at the end of 2022, and will be providing clean energy for one million households in Taiwan that will help the country in attaining the target of renewable energy power generation.
