Local Chinese news outlets have reported that PV product manufacturer EGing has started construction on a new production facility for high-efficiency PV modules. The facility is located in Changzhou, a city in China’s Jiangsu Province. Furthermore, the facility is going to comprise the eastern section of the company’s existing production base in the city. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on March 4.

According to the information provided by the company, the new facility spans an area of around 200 mu with the capacity building area totaling around 170,000 square meters. The annual production capacity of the facility is set at 5GW, and the total investment in this project is estimated at RMB 857 million. EGing aims to have the new facility up and running by September this year.

EGing said that the production lines at the new facility will be supported by various automation technologies and the most advanced equipment. Also, the modules that will be shipped from the facility will feature the latest of product design and manufacturing process technology. All in all, the company wants to set up a technologically intensive and intelligent factory with the complementing infrastructure solutions for warehousing, logistics, etc. As for products, EGing said that the new facility will be used to manufacture high-efficiency modules with cells sized 210mm and under. The module size and the cell type will also vary.

EGing has already invested RMB 300 million to set up the western section of its production base in Changzhou. The new module production capacity in the western section comes to around 2GW per year and is now in operation. Earlier this January, EGing announced that it will raise no more than RMB 1.302 billion in total via private placement. The net proceeds will be used to fund capacity expansions (i.e., the eastern section of the production base), supplement working capital, and repay interest-bearing liabilities.
