Taiwan’s CSC announced today that the company has installed the first 1.8MWh energy storage system, and will be able to participate in TPC’s Electricity Transaction Platform tender after adhering to TPC’s cable construction and passing the capability test, which is expected to create NT$12.1 million of revenue each year, and officially unfolds the third piece of energy storage puzzle for CSC’s comprehensive deployment in energy conservation, creation, and storage.

CSC has been aggressively propelling the three major orientations of energy conservation, creation, and storage in the face of the global tendency that is net zero emission. In terms of energy conservation, CSC has been adopting a systematic stocktaking method for many years, and incorporating optimized and feasible technology, as well as implementing R&D, which facilitated completion of more than 1,000 carbon-reduction projects, and accumulated 1.35 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent in reduction each year between 2011 and 2021.

In terms of energy creation, CSC has been actively developing renewable energy by having established 87.3MW of PV systems, and had accumulated more than 230 million kWh of power generation as of last year, which is approximately 120K tons of carbon dioxide equivalent reduced. CSC is also engaged in the development of the 300MW Zhongneng Offshore Wind Farm, which is scheduled for completion in 2024, and would generate roughly 120 million kWh of power each year and reduce approximately 610K tons of carbon dioxide equivalent each year then.

Regarding energy storage, CSC adheres to the national energy policy and diversified applications of electricity freedom by having completed the installation for the first 1.8MWh energy storage system in June this year, and will be participating in the tender of TPC’s transaction platform that would create approximately NT$12.1 million of revenue each year.

CSC, in order to further reinforce the tenacity of power grid for its plants, has already accelerated the establishment schedule for the second 2.2MWh energy storage system, and will be applying the rapid response of the energy storage system at the plant for critical loads. The second energy storage system is scheduled to be installed this year, and would further improve the toughness of grid load for production equipment such as shaft furnaces, as well as mitigate burden on nighttime peak generators for TPC through solar power generation smoothing and switching of power generation schedule.

CSC will continue to cultivate development and application of the three major orientations that are energy conservation, creation, and storage, as well as engage heavily in technology of energy conservation and carbon reduction, such as joint production between steel and petrochemical plants, and application R&D of green and hydrogen energy. CSC hopes to fulfill the spirit of ESG and shoulder CSR, and continue to march towards the target of being a high-value refined steel plant through the efforts and promotion of various low-carbon transition implementations.
