According to the latest statistics released by the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur), Germany added 1.04 GW of new photovoltaic (PV) capacity in April 2024, a year-on-year increase of 17.76%.

In April, the majority of the new PV installations were EEG-subsidized rooftop solar systems, totaling 572.2 MW, which was lower than March’s 632.9 MW. Under the EEG auction plan, the capacity of awarded ground-mounted projects was 323.6 MW, while rooftop PV systems added 23.8 MW. Additionally, compared to March’s 186.2 MW, new capacity from unsubsidized ground-mounted projects significantly declined to 83.1 MW.

Data shows that in the first four months of 2024, Germany added a total of 4.98 GW of new PV capacity, a 34.23% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Bavaria had the largest installation capacity at 1.096 GW, followed by Baden-Württemberg with 684.9 MW, and Saxony with 651.6 MW.

As of the end of April, Germany’s cumulative PV capacity reached 82.94 GW.
