Tesla Shanghai’s 1,000th Megapack Officially Rolls Off Production Line, Heading to Europe

On July 29, Tesla China announced that the 1,000th Megapack energy storage system produced by Tesla Shanghai Energy Storage Megafactory has officially rolled off the production line and will be shipped to Europe.

Tesla stated that it took the Shanghai factory less than half a year to go from the first to the 1,000th unit. Currently, Tesla's energy products have been deployed in over 65 countries and regions worldwide, enhancing the efficiency of power generation and transmission.

On March 21 this year, Tesla announced that the first batch of large-scale commercial electrochemical energy storage systems (Megapack) from the Shanghai Energy Storage Megafactory were officially shipped for export, bound for Australia, with subsequent supplies to serve the domestic and Asia-Pacific markets.

According to Tesla, a single Megapack can store approximately 3,900 kWh of electricity, equivalent to the battery capacity of 62 Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive vehicles.

The Tesla Shanghai Energy Storage Megafactory took only 7 months from the start of construction to official completion and acceptance, setting a new record that surpasses the "Tesla speed" established by the Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory in 2019—"breaking ground, starting production, and delivering products in the same year."

After commencing production, the Tesla Shanghai Energy Storage Megafactory will produce 10,000 Megapack units annually, with a total energy storage capacity of nearly 40 GWh. Covering a total area of approximately 200,000 square meters with a total investment of about 1.45 billion yuan, it is Tesla's first energy storage megafactory outside the United States, and another major investment project in China following the Shanghai Gigafactory, marking ten years since Tesla entered the Chinese market.
