134 GWh! Latest Energy Storage Project Updates from 4 Companies Including Tesla and Pengcheng Wuxian

Projects across the energy storage supply chain have been moving forward steadily, covering multiple sectors including energy storage systems, battery cells, and sodium-ion batteries. Key highlights include Tesla's Texas Megafactory officially entering operation, the accelerated construction of Pengcheng Wuxian's 54 GWh energy storage cell base, the filing completion for a 10 GWh sodium-ion battery project in Quzhou, Zhejiang, and the launch of the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for Hubei Wocheng's 20 GWh sodium-ion storage base. Together, these developments underscore the ongoing expansion across the energy storage industry.

Tesla's Texas Megafactory Enters Operation

On August 6, Tesla announced that its energy storage Megafactory in Texas, U.S., has officially gone into operation. Taking just 16 months from groundbreaking to production, the plant has a designed annual capacity of 50 GWh and is dedicated to producing Tesla's latest-generation energy storage product, the Megapack 3.

Tesla has now established a dual energy storage manufacturing footprint spanning the United States and China. In the U.S., the company operates two Megafactories located in Lathrop, California, and Brookshire, Texas. The Lathrop plant has already achieved mass production of the Megapack with an annual capacity of approximately 40 GWh, while Tesla's Megafactory in Shanghai, China, has also entered production. The commissioning of the Texas facility will further boost Tesla's energy storage system manufacturing capacity.

10 GWh Sodium-Ion Battery Project Slated for Quzhou, Zhejiang

On July 30, Zhejiang Green Storage Energy Technology Co., Ltd. completed the project filing for its manufacturing base, which will feature an annual capacity of 10 GWh of sodium-ion battery cells and energy storage packs.

Invested and built by Quzhou Lvxin New Energy Co., Ltd., the project represents a total investment of approximately 4 billion yuan, with fixed asset investment reaching around 3.6 billion yuan. Phase I involves a planned investment of 2 billion yuan (including ~1.8 billion yuan in fixed assets) to build a 5 GWh annual capacity base for sodium-ion cells and battery packs; construction is scheduled to begin in October 2026 and complete in September 2028. Phase II will invest an additional 2 billion yuan (1.8 billion yuan in fixed assets) to construct another 5 GWh production base for sodium-ion cells and battery packs.

Hubei Wocheng Launches EIA for 20 GWh Sodium-Ion Storage Base

On July 9, preparation work officially began for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the 20 GWh Sodium-Ion Energy Storage Zero-Carbon Manufacturing Base and High-End New Battery Technology Research Institute project in Zhangwan District, Shiyan City. Invested in and constructed by Hubei Wocheng New Energy Co., Ltd., the project carries a total investment of 1.216 billion yuan.

According to the plans, the project will build four 5 GWh production lines for underground sodium-ion energy storage systems. It will also feature a pilot research institute and pilot facility integrating R&D, pilot testing, and experimental validation for high-end new battery technologies, fostering the integrated development of sodium-ion energy storage products from R&D and pilot testing through to mass production.

Construction Accelerates at Pengcheng Wuxian's 54 GWh Energy Storage Cell Base

Recently, construction of the energy storage cell manufacturing base owned by Shenzhen Pengcheng Wuxian New Energy Co., Ltd. entered its final stretch. Work is progressing at full speed, with complete construction and delivery expected by late October.

The manufacturing base has a total planned annual capacity of 54 GWh of energy storage battery cells and will be constructed in two phases. Phase I mainly covers three core production workshops—for front-end cell processes, back-end cell processes, and formation/grading capacity—along with supporting warehousing facilities and auxiliary buildings. Trial production is scheduled to start in early November.

Construction on the project broke ground in February 2026, with main structural work completed by the end of June. Currently, the project is simultaneously advancing civil engineering finishings, steel structure installation, floor construction, enclosure structure installation, and outdoor pipe network laying.
