EU PVSEC 2014 confirms Future of PV as major Electricity Source

The 29th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (EU PVSEC 2014) closed its doors on Friday, 26 September 2014. The global PV community gathered in Amsterdam, to conduct business, to network and to present and discuss the latest developments and innovations in Photovoltaics. 48 % of the participants at the EU PVSEC 2014 had been represented by R & D specialists and 38 % from the segment industry and engineering. About 6 % of the participants came from the segment system integration and energy supply. 3,000 PV professionals from 76 countries attended the Conference Programme, covering the entire scope of PV technologies and applications. During the EU PVSEC exhibitors from along the PV value chain presented the latest products and services. The EU PVSEC 2014 highlighted the impact which the growth of PV will have on our overall energy system.

Selected Highlights of the EU PVSEC Conference 2014

Arnulf Jäger-Waldau, Technical Programme Chairman, European Commission, JRC - Joint Research Centre, presented an overview on selected highlights of the conference during the Closing Session on Friday, 26 September 2014.

Congratulations to the Winner of the European Becquerel Prize 2014

Dr. Stefan Glunz is the twenty-second Becquerel Prize winner. He is awarded the Becquerel Prize for his pioneering work in high-efficiency silicon solar cells.

Dr. Glunz is a pioneering leader in both basic and application-oriented research on silicon wafer-based photovoltaic energy conversion. His research has addressed a wide range of topics that are crucial for increasing the efficiency of solar cells and reducing the cost of solar electricity generation. This includes the analysis of electrically active defects in solar cells, development of performance-increasing technologies for solar cell manufacture, and minimizing the material demand in the production of solar cells. Dr. Glunz took a leading role in transferring research results into industrial production.

He was very active in setting up the European Strategic Research Agenda for Photovoltaics and is the initiator of a highly successful series of international workshops for PhD students (SiliconFOREST). With his engagement Dr Glunz contributed considerably to the worldwide success of photovoltaic electricity generation.

EU PVSEC 2014 Student Award Winners

To encourage high-quality work among young researchers, the EU PVSEC Student Awards are being delivered in recognition of the most remarkable and outstanding research work in the field of PV on the occasion of the EU PVSEC 2014.

40 applications for the EU PVSEC Student Awards have been received. They have been reviewed and scored by the international Scientific Committee, made up of more than 200 leading research and industry experts from the global PV community.

Following the evaluation the 5 winners of the Student Awards 2014 have been selected. The presentations of the awardees were part of the Conference Programme during the EU PVSEC 2014 in Amsterdam.

The official award ceremony of the EU PVSEC 2014 Student Awards took place on Friday, 26 September 2014 during the Closing Session.
