APS Seeks Solar Installers for Low-Income Customers

published: 2010-10-09 14:29

In support of the Energy Office of the Arizona Commerce Authority’s Distributed Energy Leadership (Utilities) Program, Arizona Public Service Co. has issued a request for proposal for the installation of multiple solar electric systems on several low-income, multifamily housing complexes. These systems will help low-income Arizona residents take advantage of the state’s most abundant resource, the sun.

The actual location of each system, which will range in size from one to four kilowatts, will depend on several factors, including customer energy use, roof stability and roof orientation. More detailed information is available at aps.com/rfp. The deadline to request this information is noon (MST), Oct. 13, 2010. The RFP submittal deadline is 4 p.m. (MST), Oct. 29, 2010.

Funding for the installations is expected from two sources. A majority will come from the Distributed Energy Leadership (Utilities) Program, which is funded with federal stimulus dollars (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009). The second funding source, pending Arizona Corporation Commission approval, is the APS Renewable Energy Incentive Program.

As part of the development process, installers must meet all reporting requirements of the Arizona Commerce Authority and all requirements related to the accounting and disbursement of federal funds pursuant to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
