Silver in the Application of Photovoltaic Industry will Double by 2015

The solar industry has turned their eyes on merits of silver for the manufacture of the clean, renewable energy.

According to the report of CommodityOnline, as many as 100 million ounces of the volatile metal will be used, up from the 50 million ounces the industry used in 2010.

"Silver, because it has the highest efficiency as a conductor of both electrical and heat energy, is also the major component of circuitry elements that transfer the energy to storage reservoirs or to devices making direct use of the photovoltaic-produced energy," quoted by the staff from the Silver Institute.

Because the silver serves effectively when used as a transfer mechanism, solar application can implement the precious metal for uses in paste, wiring and links.

Silver is notoriously known as the volatile metal because of its rapid increases and decreases in performance.

As an example, the precious metal was worth just shy of $50 per troy ounce in late April. But no more than two weeks later, silver futures were priced in the early $30s as additional commodities also plunged in value.
