Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology Co., Ltd. (Goldwind) was recently nominated as one of “The 50 Most Innovative Companies in 2012" (TR 50) by Technology Review magazine, the authority of technology associated with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Goldwind is being recognized for its ability to optimize wind farms in China, using its specially designed high altitude and low wind speed series wind turbines in order to adapt to China’s diverse operating conditions.

Technology Review’s special projects editor Stephen Cass, who manages the selection process, nicely describes the criteria for electing nominees: "What is a TR50 company? It is a business whose innovations force other businesses to alter their strategic course." "The companies we like," he writes, "have demonstrated original and valuable technology, are bringing that technology to market at a significant scale, and are clearly influencing their competitors."

The nomination process has included nominees from different industries including energy, transportation, computing & communications, web & digital media, materials and biomedicine. Goldwind and Siemens AG are the only two companies to join the TR50 this year for their development in the wind sector. Goldwind is the only wind power company to be nominated in Asia.

In 2011, Goldwind was nominated for developing a wind turbine with direct drive permanent magnet technology. The technology eliminates the need for a gearbox. With fewer moving parts, the chance of costly mechanical failure is reduced dramatically and the turbine’s lifespan is increased.

Goldwind is the world’s largest PMDD wind turbine manufacturer with projects spanning across six continents. Goldwind’s turbines employ industry leading PMDD technology that offers a host of advantages such as high efficiency electric power generation, low operational costs, high reliability and outstanding grid connection performance.

With their strong R&D capabilities, Goldwind has developed customized wind turbine series for low wind speed, high altitude, low temperature and high temperature projects in China and around the world.
