Siliken Expands to the Asian Market with Two New Offices in Japan and Singapore

published: 2012-07-27 14:30

Siliken, the international company dedicated to developing applications for the PV solar energy sector, continues its positioning and expansion in the Asian market. Recently, the company opened two new offices in Tokyo and Singapore which, in addition to its business presence in Australia, will cover demand in the Asian-Pacific region.

The decision to strengthen its presence in this market is based on the need to respond to a growing demand for PV quality solutions, a sector which pits Siliken against low-cost competitors.

The company’s main business efforts are geared towards residential and commercial applications, accounting for more than 70% of all installations carried out and in which both the performance and quality of the modules are key factors. However, the company also covers ground installations, which is a very steadily growing segment.

“PV demand is increasing fast, due to government support and the implementation of energy programmes and measures that foment the use of renewable energy to reorganize the mixture of power generation types”, Ugo Portillo, Siliken Director for the Asian-Pacific region explains. Countries like Japan and Australia show growth rates of close to 100%.

Other factors underlying Siliken’s focus on the Asian market are the high retail prices for electricity and the fact that countries such as Australia and Japan “have virtually reached ‘grit parity’, meaning that the PV market will most likely continue to grow at the expense of traditional energy sources”, Portillo states.

Siliken has been directly involved in operations in Japan, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and Nepal, either through the company’s commercial network or through sales of its PV modules to large corporations. The business portfolio currently being negotiated for the Asia-Pacific region totals 30 MW.
