CNPV Confirms Exemplary PID Test Results

published: 2012-11-16 14:52

CNPV Solar Power SA, a public limited liability company organized under the laws of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and a leading integrated manufacturer of solar photovoltaic products, confirmed their extended success within the Potential Induced Degradation [PID] certification evaluation IEC62804, sanctioning their PID free status for both Mono crystalline and Poly crystalline modules.

The objective of the IEC 62804 standard, "System voltage durability test for crystalline silicon modules-design qualification and type approval", is to evaluate crystalline silicon PV module durability to system voltage stress with a maximum power degradation <5% for test conditions of 60 degree Celsius, 85% Relative Humidity, -1,000V DC, and for a continuous period of 96 hours. The "model" zero % results obtained by CNPV under these conditions were further evaluated by increasing the aforementioned conditions to 85 degree Celsius and keeping other test parameters. A 25 degree Celsius increase is equivalent to a 5 times longer test duration (480 hours) than the test conditions specified in the IEC 62804 standard. Under these conditions the degradation was well below 0.3% and sets the new crystalline class goal within the industry.

"Many customers and end users have shown interest in PID prevention progress in recent months," concluded Mr. Bypina Veerraju Chaudary, CNPV's COO and CTO. "I think it is fair to state however that while they understand the importance of PID, they are primarily interested to know that the certificate has been attained. Our concentration at CNPV is to not only 'pass' the tests but to push the boundaries of the positive results, believing that if a test is worth pursuing, then we will work to achieve the best result within this class. This fundamental reasoning underscores our real world class-leading power generation. We are elated with our class-leading results within the PID testing regime, and will continue to develop and to improve our PID resistance, and other applicable tests results that ultimately affect the value our customers can attain. The test results highlight the premium quality of our products, which has been our solid commitment to customers. We expect this outstanding PID test results performance to further strengthen customers' confidence in our products and enhance our leadership position in the solar industry."

The certified testing was carried out by Intertek Group, a leading provider of credible certification programs for multiple industries world-wide. Within the Asia-Pacific region Intertek is the singularly selected accreditor for PID testing, with the majority of solar PV manufacturers who can test their PID status placing their programs here. With the bulk of the Asian solar industry PID tests being carried out within the same establishment, there is further ability to directly cross check the results attained, with the resultant comfort for informed consumers.
