Saft, the world’s designer and manufacturer of advanced technology batteries for industry, has opened a new Moscow subsidiary, OOO Saft, to provide enhanced sales, product delivery and technical support for customers in Russia and the CIS, particularly in the fast-growing transportation, energy storage, infrastructure and telecom sectors.

OOO Saft's Moscow sales and support office will provide facilities for customers to discuss localized innovation and engineering projects and obtain after-sales service support. These are likely to be expanded in a later phase with production facilities for state-of-the-art, nickel-based, rechargeable battery systems.

Initially, OOO Saft will focus on rail applications, including locomotives, metros, trams, passenger coaches and regional trains. Saft is already well established in this market, with major contracts including the supply of specialized rail batteries to support emergency backup applications on board the Siemens Desiro RUS 'Lastochka' regional electric trains that will transport spectators and athletes to and from the Sochi Olympic Winter Games in 2014.

OOO Saft will also support existing customers in telecom, aerospace (aircraft and satellites), and oil and gas (drilling, geophysical prospecting, pipeline inspection and offshore platforms).
