Tesla's Texas Gigafactory Hires Talents of All Levels

published: 2022-05-06 9:30

Tesla's Texas factory officially began to deliver cars in May. However, massive human resources are what it currently needs the most. Therefore, Tesla has made a public announcement to invite candidates of all backgrounds. No matter which hometown you are from, which school you graduated from, or which industry you previously belonged to, Tesla will welcome you with open arms. As long as you have specific and useful achievements in the past and you can actively solve problems, you will be welcome to join Tesla to help solve next-generation issues, including manufacturing, engineering, and operations.

Tesla's Texas factory is very special. When the global automotive industry was still hit by chip shortages and the pandemic, many rivals of Tesla had reduced their capacities and paused production. However, Tesla significantly raised the number of job vacancies because of the newly-opened Gigafactory in Austin, Texas.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said that its Texas Gigafactory would need 10,000 employees in 2022, and on multiple occasions, he has widely publicized that Texas Giga is hiring. Musk is actively trying to attract people to move to Austin, Texas. Thus, he has emphasized the fact that this factory is only 5 minutes from an airport, and 15 minutes from downtown

It is worth noting that Musk pressed the Austin city government to accelerate their plan for a massive housing zone near the Tesla factory. According to Musk, at least 20,000 direct jobs will be created by the factory, and the employees and their families will benefit if they live in the greater Austin area. This is just the beginning of what’s to come. In the future, another 100,000 indirect jobs will be created to support Tesla's factory and Tesla's workers, Musk stated.

Working in a Tesla Gigafactory might not be the highest paying job, but it is definitely one of the coolest jobs.

According to the statistics of the US job hunting website, Indeed.com, at Tesla, a software engineer's annual salary ranges between 120 K ~ 150 K USD, and a laborer's hourly wage ranges between 20 ~ 30 USD. United Automobile Workers (UAW)'s statistics show that the latest average hourly wage of a worker in the automobile industry is 25 USD in 2022. Tesla's wage overall is considered about average.

Perhaps what everyone cares the most about in Tesla's job position is the stock options. According to Tesla's employees, Tesla gives stock options on the day that an employee starts to work and after an employee has worked for half a year. Through Tesla's Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), employees can buy Tesla stocks with 15% discounts twice per year.

Tesla's stocks are on the rise, and its capacity target has kept growing. When it comes to the overtime pay for its employees, Tesla tends to be very generous. Its workers do not belong to any union, but their salaries are higher. Tesla's employee benefits include basic healthcare, accidental-death-and-dismemberment insurance, and parental leave.

An aspect of Tesla’s employee benefit that is rarely known is its 35% discounts on Tesla merchandise. These products include Cyberquad For Kids, the Cyberwhistle, which is the subject of numerous parodies and spoofs, the Tesla S3xy T-shirts that are selling like hot cakes and are constantly in shortage, and the lightning-shaped Tesla Decanter.

If anyone is considering about working for Tesla, now seems to be a good time. The Gigafactory in Austin will be responsible for making the Cybertruck and Tesla Semi in the future. At the same time, this factory will also need to manufacture the new battery model 4680, and it currently operates as the headquarters of Tesla. Therefore, whether you are a laborer, engineer, architect, salesman, or human resource specialist, you will all have a chance to join the Gigafactory.
