On December 30, 2022, Guizhou Yayou New Materials held a ceremony to mark the activation of the first phase of its iron(III) phosphate project and the start of the construction for the second phase. The project is located in Weng’an County, which is a part of China’s Guizhou Province.

The first phase spans an area of 220 mu and entails an investment of RMB 1.2 billion. Once in operation, the first phase is expected to generate RMB 1.8 billion in annual output value. Yayou said the chemical facility buildings at the project site have adopted a smart modular design. Furthermore, Yayou has also adopted the most advanced chemical engineering technologies that are available in China for the manufacturing of iron(III) phosphate. Therefore, the project will have a notable cost advantage compared with similar projects within the country. The first phase will eventually attain a production capacity of 100,000 tons per year for iron(III) phosphate.

Guizhou Yayou New Materials is a joint venture of Zhejiang Yayou Cobalt and Beijing Hezong Science and Technology. It inherits a vast amount of resources and has distinct advantages in terms of technological R&D, manufacturing process, smart production equipment, partners in the supply chain, and client base.

On the same day, construction started on the second phase of the project. Hence, the ceremony also celebrated the laying of the foundation for the second phase. With a total investment of RMB 4 billion, the second phase spans an area of 800 mu. The factory buildings belonging to the second phase will be used to refine mineral ores (e.g., phosphate and pyrite ores) and manufacture various industrial chemicals. Yayou said the products that the second phase will be supplying are based on mature chemical engineering technologies. Examples include the production of ammonium via a wet process (i.e., phosphoric acid ammoniation), the production of sulfuric acid from pyrite, the production of sulfuric acid and cement from gypsum via a calcining process, the production of sulfuric acid from white phosphorous via a thermal process, and the production of iron(II) sulfate. The second phase will eventually attain a total production capacity of 200,000 tons per year for iron(III) phosphate as the primary product and cement and gypsum as the auxiliary products.
