According to Wechat Official Account @solar868, US-based photovoltaic module manufacturer SEG Solar has launched the first production line at its new plant in Central Java, Indonesia, advancing the first phase of its 5GW project.

Texas-based SEG Solar on Friday announced the launch of its first N-type solar cell with an average conversion efficiency of 26.4 percent, just seven months after it began construction.

The new plant, located in the Batang Integrated Industrial Zone, will specialize in the production of ingots, wafers, cells and modules. The first phase of the project will include four production lines with a total capacity of 2GW, and the plant will continue to expand until it reaches an annual capacity of 5GW.

SEG Solar said it plans to further develop a fully vertically integrated industry chain covering silicon rods, wafers, solar cells and modules, adding that it will continue to work with global partners and deepen local partnerships.

Products from the new plant will reportedly be supplied to projects in the U.S., Europe and Indonesia. SEG Solar, which has manufacturing facilities in the U.S. and Indonesia, has an annual module production capacity of more than 6GW by the end of 2024. Last summer, SEG Solar opened a 2GW N-Type module plant in Texas.
