Recently, the expansion of energy storage capacity has accelerated once again. Companies such as CALB, XDLE, ZOOLNASM and Nebula Services are aggressively pushing forward with base construction, project production, and signing ceremonies.
Below are the core details of these project dynamics:
- CALB Launches Power and Energy Storage Battery Bases
On January 23, the launch ceremony for CALB's Power and Energy Storage Battery Base was held in Zigong, Sichuan. The Zigong project is expected to be completed and operational within the year, though specific investment figures and capacity plans have not yet been publicly disclosed.
EnergyTrend noticed that CALB has been actively carrying out industrial layout recently. On January 22, according to news released by "Hubei Release", Phase IV of CALB’s Wuhan Base focuses on the production of power battery PACK (battery pack) systems. It plans to build 6 intelligent production lines with a designed annual capacity of approximately 400,000 units. Initiated in July 2025, the project has now entered the critical phase of equipment moving-in and commissioning, and is scheduled to be officially put into production in 2026.
On January 20, AICEP Global Parques (the Portuguese Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade) held an investment contract signing ceremony in Sines. CALB officially signed a contract to construct a lithium battery factory project with a total investment of €2.067 billion, and secured €350 million in incentive support from the Portuguese government.
- New Progress of Xingtai 12GW Lithium Battery Project
On January 19, Xingtai Municipal Bureau of Ecology and Environment announced the acceptance status of "Phase I of the 12GW High-performance Lithium-ion Energy Storage Battery Project" undertaken by XDLE (Hebei) Lithium Battery Technology Co., Ltd.
With a total investment of RMB 1.35 billion, the publicly disclosed Phase I of the project plans to introduce and install 2 fully automated production lines for prismatic lithium-ion energy storage batteries (with a total capacity of 2GW), 5 fully automated battery PACK lines, and more than 120 sets of testing equipment. The project is equipped with safety, fire protection, environmental protection and other facilities. Upon completion, it will have an annual output capacity of 4GW of fully automated prismatic lithium-ion energy storage battery solutions and 20 million energy storage lithium batteries, among which 8 million will be sold externally and 12 million will be used for PACK battery packs.
- ZOOLNASM’s Meishan Sodium Battery Project Put into Production
On January 17, the Meishan Headquarters Base Project (Meishan Lina Base) of Jiangsu ZOOLNASM Energy Technology Co., Ltd. was officially put into production.
With a total investment of RMB 2 billion, the project is planned to be implemented in two phases. Upon full completion, it will form a comprehensive production capacity of 30,000 tons of sodium iron sulfate cathode materials and 5GWh sodium-ion battery PACK systems annually.
According to Xia Gang, Chairman and General Manager of ZOOLNASM, the Phase I project put into production this time has an annual production capacity of 10,000 tons of cathode materials. It is the world's first megaton-scale mass production base for sodium iron sulfate cathode materials, which will lay a foundation for the large-scale industrial application of sodium-ion batteries. At present, ZOOLNASM has secured orders for over 5,000 tons of sodium iron sulfate, with intended orders reaching nearly 20,000 tons.
- Nebula Services Breaks Ground on New Storage Project in Ningde
On January 16, the "Nebula Energy Storage System and Battery Key Component Manufacturing and Testing Center Project" held its groundbreaking ceremony in Ningde. The project is invested in by Ningde Nebula Technology, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nebula Services.
Located in Jiaocheng District, Ningde City, Fujian Province, the fully completed project will feature intelligent production lines covering products such as industrial energy storage PCS, grid-side energy storage PCS, DC fast charging piles and DC modules, and high-voltage control boxes (S-Box). It will also build a high-standard lithium battery testing laboratory simultaneously, establishing comprehensive testing capabilities covering the entire life cycle of lithium batteries including cells, modules and battery packs (PACK).
