According to EnergyTrend, investment and construction momentum across the energy storage and lithiumion battery industrial chain has accelerated recently. New production capacity projects in segments including sodiumion batteries, energy storage/power battery cells, battery structural components, cathode and anode materials have seen fresh developments such as approval, signing, expansion and commissioning.

Guizhou NewEnergy Battery Structural Component Project Signed

According to reports from Gui’an New Area Convergence Media Center, a signing ceremony was held on May 12 for the headquarters and production base project of Guizhou Lihong Precision Technology Co., Ltd.

Under the agreement, Lihong Precision plans to invest in building a newenergy battery structural component production base in Gui’an New Area. Located on Yuheng Road, Gui’an New Area, the project involves an investment of approximately 543 million yuan and will construct automated production lines with a daily output of 700,000 sets.

Jointly funded by Chanfa Company under Gui’an Industrial Control Group and Yunzhou Capital, the Gui’an project produces integrated stamping explosionproof covers for 5C fastcharging newenergy batteries, which are applied in newenergy vehicles and energy storage sectors.

Hunan Yuneng Builds Cathode Material Plant in Spain

According to foreign media reports, Hunan Yuneng has recently started construction of a new factory in Mérida, Extremadura, southwestern Spain.

Phase one of the project entails an investment of around 125 million euros (approximately 990 million yuan), building production lines with an annual capacity of 50,000 tons of lithium iron phosphate cathode materials. Further expansion to an annual output of 300,000 tons is planned later. Having obtained all necessary construction permits, the project has transitioned from the administrative approval stage to construction. Its total investment stands at roughly 800 million euros (about 6.33 billion yuan).

In April 2024, Hunan Yuneng announced plans to set up an investment firm in Singapore, which would establish a project company in Spain to invest in a 50,000ton annual lithiumion battery cathode material project in Extremadura, Spain. The project company was founded in June 2025, marking the official launch of substantive construction.

30,000Ton Annual Anode Material Project Commissioned in Chongqing

On May 11, Phase I of the lithiumion battery anode material project by Chongqing Lihong Times New Materials Co., Ltd. was put into operation. This is Century Lihong Group’s first lithiumion battery anode material project. With a total investment of 600 million yuan, the project will produce 30,000 tons of lithiumion battery anode materials per year upon full completion.

Focusing on R&D and production of highend lithiumion battery anode materials, the commissioning of Phase I will quickly build stable production capacity to meet demand from downstream power batteries, energy storage and other sectors, driving agglomeration of supporting upstream and downstream industries.

1 GWh SodiumIon Battery Project Filed for Record in Wenzhou

On May 11, the 1 GWh annual sodiumion battery project by Wenzhou Nashu New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. received approval for filing from the Development and Reform Bureau of Ouhai District, Wenzhou.

Planned with a total investment of 250 million yuan and a 12month construction period, the project is expected to produce 1.7 million energy storage cells upon completion. Utilizing an existing plant covering 11,951.79 square meters, it will build a production line for lowcost, highperformance energy storage sodiumion batteries through plant renovation, procurement of core equipment and supporting public auxiliary facilities.

CATL Battery Expansion Project Publicized

On May 12, the Gui’an New Area Bureau of Ecology and Environment released a draft approval notice for the environmental impact statement of the Guizhou Contemporary Amperex Technology NewEnergy Battery Green Intelligent Manufacturing Base (Gui’an Phase II Expansion).

Developed by CATL (Guizhou) New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. in Gui’an New Area, Guizhou Province, the Phase II expansion will introduce advanced production equipment including highefficiency cathode/anode slurry mixers, cathode/anode gravure printers and wideformat doublesided electrode coating machines. Upon completion, it will achieve an annual production capacity of 40 GWh of newenergy battery cells.

Xiamen HighPerformance LithiumIon Battery Base Nears Commissioning

According to Xiamen Torch HighTech Zone on May 14, the highperformance lithiumion battery base project, a key provincial and municipal project in Fujian and Xiamen, has entered the final sprint phase of decoration, finishing and electromechanical installation. Fire inspections will be completed in batches this year.

Covering a total land area of about 955,000 square meters and a total construction area of approximately 1.039 million square meters, the project mainly includes 2 cell workshops, 2 capacity workshops, a module workshop and supporting facilities such as multiple dormitory buildings, forming a fullchain production workshop from material feeding and coating to formation and capacity testing.

Construction progresses in batches toward fire inspections. According to onsite supervisors, decoration, finishing and electromechanical installation are basically finished for Cell Workshop 1 (including its capacity workshop), supporting utility buildings and Dormitories 1–4. Cell Workshop 2 (including its capacity workshop), three module workshops, Dormitories 5–8 and the basement of the activity center are under decoration and electromechanical installation, while the electrode workshop and Utility Building 4 are in the secondary structural construction stage.
