Recently, technical upgrades across photovoltaic (PV) module production lines have continued to advance. JA Solar and TCL Zhonghuan have successively rolled out module production line upgrade projects, laying out strategic pathways in BC module technology and perovskite tandem module technology, respectively.
EIA Publicized for JA Solar’s 0.6 GW Perovskite Tandem Module Upgrade Project
On July 23, the module technical upgrade project at JA Solar's Yangzhou base passed its Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) technical review and entered the public notice period prior to official approval.
According to the public notice, the project developer is JA Solar (Yangzhou) New Energy Co., Ltd. The company plans to invest 210 million RMB to construct the "JA Solar Yangzhou Base Module Technical Upgrade Project" within its existing facility located in the Yangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone. The primary scope of construction involves upgrading to perovskite tandem technology by converting one existing 72-cell format module production line into a perovskite tandem module line, while keeping all other production lines unchanged. The total annual production capacity before and after the revamp remains unchanged at 10 GW/a.
Following the upgrade, an additional 0.6 GW/a of perovskite tandem module capacity will be added, offset by a 0.6 GW/a reduction in conventional module capacity.
Project Filing Approved for TCL Zhonghuan’s 1 GW TOPCon Module Revamp
On July 22, the project filing was approved for converting a TOPCon module production line into a BC module line at Plant 2 of DAS Solar Technology (Zhangzhou) Co., Ltd., a holding subsidiary under TCL Zhonghuan.
Earlier, TCL Zhonghuan issued an announcement regarding the capacity upgrade and revamp project for its BC cell and module base. The announcement noted that following its acquisition of DAS Solar, the company plans to convert 1 GW of TOPCon module capacity in Zhangzhou into 1 GW of BC module capacity. The implementing entity is its holding subsidiary, DAS Solar Technology (Zhangzhou) Co., Ltd. The project is scheduled to launch in July 2026, with production expected to phase in starting by the end of the third quarter of 2026.
