Construction Progress of Energy Storage Projects by Five Enterprises Including CALB and CATL

EnergyTrend has learned that five enterprises including CALB, CATL, Noval Electric, Cangzhou Mingzhu and Zenergy have recently announced new milestones for their energy storage projects, covering segments such as power/energy storage batteries, lithium battery separators, sodium-ion batteries and supporting energy storage equipment.

CALB’s Phase III Project at Hefei Base Commences Production

As reported by "Xingfu Changfeng", Phase III of CALB’s Hefei base officially went into operation on the morning of September 9.

The Phase III project is designed with a production capacity of 25 GWh. It adopts a new generation of intelligent and eco-friendly manufacturing processes, covering both automotive and energy storage sectors. The project adds new capacity for high-end power batteries and energy storage batteries, equipped with advanced facilities including non-destructive battery quality inspection systems.

Construction of the Phase IV project is also advancing at a steady pace. Signed in December last year, Phase IV includes an energy storage battery project and a power battery PACK project. Among them, the energy storage battery project is scheduled to be completed and put into operation by the end of this year. The Wushan PACK production line was built within 87 days and has been successfully commissioned.

Progress Updated for RMB 50 Billion Lithium Battery Intelligent Manufacturing Base

Shandong News Network reported on September 6 that construction of the zero-carbon park in Kenli Economic and Technological Development Zone, Dongying, is in full swing.

The Dongying CATL green lithium battery intelligent manufacturing base, invested by CATL with a total investment exceeding RMB 50 billion, targets green lithium battery production. It marks Shandong’s first project with direct green power access.

The main construction of the base’s Phase I factory building has been mostly completed, with finishing works underway. The project will enter a critical commissioning and joint-testing phase by year-end.

Large-Capacity Energy Storage Equipment Project Accelerates Construction

On September 10, "Xingfu Huaiyin" reported that at the construction site of Noval Electric’s automated equipment and energy storage & distribution system project in Guqingkou Sub-district, workers are busy erecting the steel structure of new factory buildings, accelerating project development.

Fully funded by Greynor (Xiamen) Switchgear Co., Ltd., Noval Electric focuses on the long-duration energy storage market and specializes in developing high-energy-density megawatt-scale supporting energy storage products. Its products target large-scale energy storage projects of 6.7–10 MWh, further tapping niche markets for specialized energy storage applications.

The project will be developed in two phases. Phase I focuses on manufacturing automated electrical equipment and energy storage & distribution systems, while Phase II will deploy energy storage power station assets. Subsequent equipment delivery, automated commissioning and sample trial production will be carried out in parallel. Full commercial operation is expected around the Spring Festival of 2027.

RMB 3.38 Billion Lithium Battery Project Kicks Off

On September 8, Guangzhou Light Industry Group announced that its listed subsidiary Cangzhou Mingzhu held a groundbreaking ceremony for its South China Base project in Zengcheng District, Guangzhou.

With a total investment of approximately RMB 3.38 billion and a total construction area of roughly 150,000 square meters, the site will host lithium battery separator workshops, PE pipeline workshops, warehouses, utility stations, hazardous waste storage facilities, tank farms and auxiliary premises.

The project will mainly produce 5 μm high-end wet-process lithium battery separators and premium PE pressure pipelines, equipped with 8 internationally advanced wide-width wet separator production lines and 7 multi-specification pipeline production lines (including one reserved line). Completion is scheduled for September 2028, and its products will primarily supply customers such as CATL and BYD.

Zenergy’s 50 GWh Sodium-Ion Battery Project Gets Environmental Approval

On August 21, the Administrative Committee of Changshu High-Tech Industrial Development Zone issued an approval document for the environmental impact statement (including a special environmental risk assessment) of Jiangsu Zenergy Battery Technologies Group Co., Ltd.’s intelligent flexible manufacturing project for new sodium-ion batteries.

The project carries a total investment of RMB 10 billion and will occupy a newly-acquired land area of 494,638 square meters for the construction of an intelligent flexible manufacturing base for sodium-ion batteries. The project consists of three parts: ① The plot east of Yinhe Road and north of Xiangyuan Road in Changshu High-Tech Zone will be built to produce 50 GWh of sodium-ion batteries annually, supported by R&D and testing facilities;

② The plot east of Xiangyuan Road and west of the Changshu-Taicang Expressway will deliver an annual output of 145 million square meters of cathode electrodes and 154 million square meters of anode electrodes, with supporting R&D and testing infrastructure;

③ The plot east of Yinhe Road and north of Xiangyuan Road will serve as staff activity centers and shift dormitories with no production activities.

Zenergy plans to continue capacity expansion driven by market demand. It will roll out new intelligent projects including sodium-ion battery lines and production lines for large-format energy storage cells above 1000 Ah to meet demand in long-duration energy storage, computing centers, decentralized power supply and other energy storage scenarios. The company will also serve multiple sectors including new energy vehicles, electric manned aircraft, humanoid robots and electric ships.
