Over 19GWh! Four Major Energy Storage and Battery Projects See New Developments

published: 2026-09-20 14:24

Recently, projects in the energy storage industry have continued to advance. SMA's Gigawatt Factory in Germany has officially been put into operation, CBAK Energy has disclosed its long-term capacity planning of 12GWh for sodium-ion batteries, and a 2GWh power and energy storage battery project along with a 5GWh energy storage system integration project have successfully landed in Jinhu and Xuyi of Jiangsu Province, respectively.

SMA's Gigawatt Factory in Germany Officially Put into Operation

Recently, SMA's new Gigawatt Factory, located at its headquarters in Niestetal, Germany, was officially inaugurated and put into production.

With a total investment of approximately 80 million euros, the facility is one of SMA's major production investment projects. It has a planned maximum annual production capacity of over 60GW and primarily manufactures power electronics equipment for large-scale photovoltaic (PV), energy storage, and other new energy projects.

According to reports, the factory's products cover PV, energy storage, hybrid energy, hydrogen, and data center power systems, with the related equipment mainly utilized in large-scale new energy projects.

CBAK Energy Plans 12GWh Sodium-Ion Battery Capacity

Recently, CBAK Energy announced the internal testing results of its 32140 NH-7Ah tabless sodium-ion battery cell and disclosed a long-term capacity plan for an annual output of 12GWh of sodium-ion batteries.

It is understood that this project is primarily aimed at scenarios such as energy storage, light electric mobility, and special backup power sources. Currently, the related battery cells have completed internal testing, and samples have been sent to customers for practical testing. The testing scenarios cover residential energy storage, portable energy storage, as well as electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers, while verification in fields like special vehicles, automotive start-stop systems, and backup power sources is being advanced simultaneously.

In terms of production capacity, 12GWh is the company's long-term planning target. The planned production lines will adopt a co-line design for lithium and sodium battery cells, allowing production to be switched according to customer demands. The company stated that the subsequent implementation timeline and construction scale of the production lines will depend on the progress of customer certification, market demand, and project implementation conditions.

2GWh Power and Energy Storage Battery Project Lands in Jinhu

Recently, a 2GWh power and energy storage battery project officially landed in Jinhu County, Huai'an City, Jiangsu Province.

The project was jointly introduced by the Jinhu County Bureau of Commerce and Jinnan Town. It is jointly invested and constructed by three parties, including a certain Guangdong-based new energy technology company. Renovation is scheduled to begin in December 2026, and the project is expected to be completed and put into production by September 2027.

The project will primarily produce cylindrical solid-state power and energy storage lithium batteries, with products widely applied in new energy supporting fields such as engineering equipment and power tools.

5GWh Annual Capacity Energy Storage System Integration Project Lands in Xuyi

On September 18, an energy storage system integration supporting project with an annual capacity of 5GWh was officially signed and located in Xuyi County, Huai'an City, Jiangsu Province.

Introduced by the Xuyi County Development and Reform Commission, the investing enterprise is primarily engaged in the R&D and manufacturing of energy storage containers and new energy supporting equipment. Once completed, the project is expected to form an annual production capacity of 5GWh of energy storage system integration units and 800 sets of supporting energy storage systems, effectively meeting the demand for energy storage equipment in the East China market.

According to reports, this project is the first supply chain supporting enterprise introduced since TBEA established its presence in Xuyi. The project will complement the existing local new energy industry and further perfect the energy storage equipment manufacturing supply chain.
