Massachusetts Incorporates Energy Storage System Into Clean Peak Standard

published: 2019-07-17 14:13

Massachusetts has rolled out a new "Clean Peak Standard (CPS)" capable of multiple support, paving the way for the commercial and industrial energy storage system provider Stem to enter the state's energy storage market.

The company has joined hands with Syncarpha Capital Partnership, a private equity firm, in building a large-scale 28.2 MWh energy storage system on the premises of a large-scale PV power plant in Massachusetts.

According to Stem, the energy storage system can be integrated into a virtual power plant via a self-developed AI software platform.

Up to five energy storage systems with a total capacity of 28.2 MWh will be connected to five distributed PV power facilities with a total installation capacity of 26 MW. Syncarpha Capital will construct and own the facilities, which will be entitled to federal tax breaks, become a part of Massachusetts' PV power plan, and join the New England ISO wholesale market. These facilities will all be furnished with Stem's AI software platform Athena. The company also plans to offer other services to the state's power system.
