In order to further realize the autonomous development of offshore wind power, as well as the localization target of the supply chain, Taiwanese offshore wind power developer SRE announced on July 5 the partnership with Tien Li Offshore Wind Technology, Yeong Guan, and J&V Energy regarding the establishment of the first “Taiwan Team” co-funded by local developers and supply chains.

The companies will co-invest in the large development site off the coast of Miaoli, and hope to develop important energy transformation engineering for the Taiwanese offshore wind power market that will create new orientations by centralizing local development, supply chains, technology, establishment, and maintenance.

SRE added that taking into account the tender mechanism for the third phase of block development that will be announced shortly, the Taiwan Team will also readjust the development strategies in accordance with the selection procedure for suppliers within the next 3 years by renaming the Formosa 4-3 Wind Farm (Hai Sheng) with fixated foundation piles to Formosa 4, and the Formosa 4-2 Wind Farm (Hai Shuo) with a floating platform to Formosa 5. A brand new and independent identification system is given to each wind farm to not only establish a brand concept but also accentuate and emphasize the features of each wind farm, which infuses precision and distinctiveness in respective functions and positioning.

So far SRE has participated in the 128MW offshore wind farm Formosa 1 that has now entered commercial operation, and the 376MW offshore wind farm Formosa 2 that is currently under construction, as well as the extensive floating offshore project off the coast of Miaoli in September 2020 with a potential installed capacity of 4.4GW.

Lin Yong-yao, the CEO of SRE, commented that the company is supportive of the government in transforming the offshore wind power industry to be the next pillar for the economy, and is happy to shoulder its corporate social responsibility by gathering and integrating the resources of the Taiwan Team, in order to exert synergistic advantages, as well as cultivate talents and industrial clusters, which will occupy a significant position in the global market for Taiwanese offshore wind power.

Tien Li, Yeongguan, and J&V Energy are renowned renewable energy businesses in Taiwan. Tien Li has invested NT$3 billion in the 21-hectare plant at the Taichung Port, which is the only turbine blade plant in Asia Pacific apart from China, and the related production parts have been globally certified. Yeongguan started to research and develop exclusive castings for wind turbines since 2005, and ascended from participating in the production of wind turbines that each generates 750KW of power, to developing the successful 14MW model for clients. J&V Energy started from solar, and began investing in Tien Li last year, before investing in Teras recently.
