To continue driving Taiwan’s renewable energy development in 2026, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has introduced the “Outstanding Diverse Green Energy Award.” Hosted by the MOEA’s Energy Administration, co-organized by relevant renewable energy associations, and executed by the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), this initiative encourages cross-sector investments in renewable energy infrastructure to boost domestic installation capacity and foster sustainable industry growth. Following a careful evaluation, the “Taiwan Excellent PV Award” (also known as the “Gold Award”) has been integrated into the Outstanding Diverse Green Energy Award for a unified awards process. This integration aims to further elevate the quality and international competitiveness of Taiwan’s solar photovoltaic (PV) products.
Since 2013, the Energy Administration has organized the “Premium Solar PV Product Selection” and presented the Taiwan Excellent PV Award to publicly recognize high-efficiency, premium-quality domestic solar PV products. The selection process is grounded in the latest International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standards, with criteria adjusted on a rolling basis to reflect domestic and global market trends, as well as operational environmental demands. By employing comprehensive and rigorous testing and review mechanisms, the program identifies premium products that deliver both exceptional performance and durability, ultimately guiding the domestic solar PV industry toward continuous technological advancement and quality optimization.
The 14th Taiwan Excellent PV Award in 2026 features four major categories: “Conventional PV Modules,” “Application-Specific PV Modules,” “PV Cells,” and “Inverters.” To keep pace with international technological advancements, the program has raised efficiency thresholds across all categories and updated its reference standards. Recognizing the widespread adoption of N-type technology, evaluations for modules and cells will maintain ultraviolet-induced degradation (UVID) testing while continuously tightening mechanical load testing to ensure higher performance and reliability against environmental weathering. For inverters, alongside upgraded data security standards, the criteria for reliability and performance degradation have been made stricter. This ensures long-term operational and maintenance stability, thereby effectively identifying premium products capable of competing on a global scale. Through these enhanced measures, the award more effectively highlights the exceptional quality and uniqueness of the products that meet its high standards, thus ultimately helping award-winning manufacturers expand their reach in domestic and international markets.
Furthermore, the mechanical structural strength of a module remains a primary evaluation focus. The conditions for the static mechanical load test have been intensified, setting the test load to plus or minus 5400 Pa to simulate the impact of severe wind pressure on the module’s structure, thereby verifying its ability to maintain safety and stable performance under extreme weather conditions. For inverters, cybersecurity assessments now align with the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection’s (BSMI) “Technical Specifications for Data Security Testing of Solar PV Inverters and Monitoring Units.” Concurrently, long-standing selection criteria such as operational efficiency, the copper-accelerated acetic acid salt spray (CASS) Test, and the humidity-freeze cycle test are retained as essential indicators of environmental tolerance. Together, these rigorous testing protocols ensure that products recognized by the Taiwan Excellent PV Award deliver not only outstanding energy conversion efficiency but also the robust environmental adaptability required for long-term outdoor operation.
Registration for the Outstanding Diverse Green Energy Award / Taiwan Excellent PV Award officially opened on June 1, 2026. Following a register eligibility review, physical product testing will commence, and an award ceremony is scheduled to take place during Energy Taiwan in October 2026 to publicly honor the winning manufacturers and products. Representing the highest quality honor for domestic solar PV products, this award helps system integrators and end-users identify high-performance, highly reliable solutions while building a strong foundation of consumer trust. Additionally, this initiative fosters technological upgrades and innovative R&D throughout the entire supply chain, thereby fueling the overall growth of the green energy sector and strengthening Taiwan’s global visibility and competitive edge.
