Trina Solar has officially signed a patent licensing agreement with French photovoltaic manufacturer HoloSolis. Under the agreement, HoloSolis will gain access to Trina Solar’s portfolio of n-type TOPCon patents for use in Europe, enabling the company to establish local production lines based on high-efficiency, proven PV technologies. This collaboration highlights how global innovation can enhance Europe’s domestic PV manufacturing capacity and accelerate the region’s energy transition.
TOPCon is a highly efficient, industrially proven solar cell technology, widely recognized in the industry for its scalability and outstanding performance. With its high level of maturity and readiness for mass production, TOPCon is regarded as the ideal choice for new large-scale PV factories in Europe to quickly scale up to gigawatt-level capacity.
HoloSolis has selected Hambach in Moselle, Grand Est, as the site for its factory, which is designed for an annual capacity of 5 GW. This is equivalent to producing 10 million PV modules per year—enough to meet the electricity demand of around one million households. The project is expected to create more than 2,000 direct jobs and generate significant long-term industrial benefits for the Grand Est region.
Oliver Schultz-Wittmann, CTO of HoloSolis, said: “Our cooperation with Trina Solar allows us to combine world-leading technology with Europe’s manufacturing strengths. By securing this license, HoloSolis products can continuously innovate, fully comply with global intellectual property standards, and deliver high-reliability, high-performance localized PV solutions to the European market.”
Trina Solar’s n-type TOPCon patents cover some of the most advanced and fundamental technologies in the field. This agreement further strengthens Trina Solar’s position as a global technology leader and industry enabler—not only by supplying cutting-edge PV products worldwide, but also by empowering local industry development through strategic partnerships.
Beyond this licensing agreement, Trina Solar and HoloSolis are actively exploring additional collaboration opportunities, including strategic initiatives to further reinforce the European PV value chain.
