published: 2012-07-09 16:24

The first edition of Building Solar China - Conference and Exhibition opened its doors from 09 – 12 June 2012 (Conference 09 -10 June 2012, Exhibition 09 - 12 June 2012) at the China Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou, China. Jointly organised by Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and WIP, BSC took place concurrently with the 17th annual Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition, the largest lighting trade fair in Asia, and with the 9th edition of Guangzhou Electrical Building Technology.

The two-day conference gathered more than 200 attendees of college professors, architects, engineers, energy experts, government officials and industry association representatives, who shared the latest information on technologies needed to implement smart solar building concepts, including building-integrated photovoltaic systems (BIPV) in six sessions.  Focusing on the theme “Smart Solar Building Solutions”, the conference featured discussions lead by prominent industry professionals, including Mr Han Aixing, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Science & Technology and Energy Saving on Buildings of Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China (MOHURD), Mr Meng Xiangan, Vice President of China Renewable Energy Society (CRES) and Mr Nikos Fintikakis, Architect and Director of International Union of Architects (UIA), and Council Member of Architecture and Renewable Energy Sources (ARES) International Work Programme.

Mr Meng Xiangan, Vice President, China Renewable Energy Society (CRES), Beijing, China stated: “The Chinese Ministry of Finance supports BIPV systems through various subsidies such as the Golden Sun demonstration project, a government initiative unveiled in 2010 to install solar farms with up to 70% in PV subsidies. I think Building Solar China was a very successful conference, and provided a good platform for industry peers to exchange their ideas.”

Mr Nikos Fintikakis, Architect, International Union of Architects Council Member, Director of UIA-ARES International Work Programme, Athens, Greece said: “The architect should understand the impact of the climate and environment when designing a building integrated with solar technology. This conference updates attendees with the latest industry news and has given me a good chance to meet with the industry experts and share my views with an engaging audience.”

Another speaker, Mr Xiao Yiqiang, National Class One Registered Architect, Professor / Doctor Supervisor, South China University of Technology, School of Architecture, Guangzhou, China adds: “The Building Solar China conference gave us an excellent platform to discuss how to design solar projects that meet both building codes and to generate electricity efficiently. In order to promote the solar industry, we need to educate more architects with the knowledge of the PV market.”

Mr Richard Li, Deputy General Manager of Messe Frankfurt in China commented: “It’s our first time co-operating with WIP, and I believe Building Solar China has been a success. We’ve been able to expose the China market to the professionalism and expertise of WIP, as well as the latest developments in solar building technology from around the world. I also believe that with Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition and Guangzhou Electrical Building Technology running concurrently with Building Solar China, we saw some great synergies for the three associated industries.”

Mr Heinz Ehmann, WIP, Head of Building Solar China’s organising committee - Europe noted: “The participants for this first edition of Building Solar China form the start of an expanding network into the potential opportunities in China’s solar building market. We look forward to continuing our cooperation with Building Solar China and welcome interested groups to the next edition in 2013, here in Guangzhou.”
