BYD Aims to be the ‘Green City Solution’ Provider at EVs 25

published: 2010-11-04 14:46

As a Shenzhen-based auto manufacturer and a pioneer in the development of new energy vehicles, BYD, which endorses the “Green City Solution” to electrify urban public transportation, presents itself as a key solution provider at EVs 25.

From November 5th to 9th, the 25th World Electric Vehicle Symposium and Exposition (EVs 25) will be held in the Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Centre in China. BYD will bring three electric vehicle models to the exhibition, including the pure electric e6, the pure electric K9 bus, and the Dual-Mode F3 DM hybrid vehicle.

Recognized as the premier event for academic, government and industry professionals involved in electric drive technologies, this is the second time EVs is being held in China. An opening ceremony will be held on November 4th with a 55km-long electric vehicle parade, followed by five days of seminars, an exhibition and ride and drive sessions.

Using its independently developed advanced Fe battery technology, BYD has produced several electric vehicle models. As the gold sponsor of EVs 25, BYD will bring its full line-up of electric vehicles and take part in the series of activities, including the exhibition, seminars, test drives and the EV parade.

World’s First Dual-Mode Plug-in Hybrid Vehicle-BYD F3DM

As the world’s first Dual Mode plug-in hybrid vehicle, the BYD F3DM, a Dual Mode electric car with 5 seats, has a maximum EV range of 60km and maximum HEV range of 500 km (with full tank of fuel and full battery). Powered by advanced BYD Fe batteries located under the floor, the F3DM is suitable for short-distance commuting and does not rely on charging facilities. You can charge up the car during the night and if the charge becomes low during driving, the gasoline engine will kick-in and power the car in hybrid mode.

The First Pure-electric Taxi in China - BYD e6

The BYD e6 is a pure-electric 5-seat crossover vehicle designed for multi-purpose use. Its maximum range is 300 km and the top speed is 140km/h. BYD e6 vehicles have been used as taxis in Shenzhen. The fleet of 50 e6 taxis has been in service in Shenzhen since May 2010, and the overall driving distance has surpassed 600,000 kilometres. The milestone of the e6 taxis’ successful operation over more than 600,000 kilometres was marked last month by Warren Buffett, the share holder of BYD and Wang Chuanfu, the CEO and President of BYD.

To Electrify the Urban Public Transportation System - BYD K9

Using BYD’s unique Fe battery system, in-wheel motors and intelligent battery management system, the 12-metre long K9 can reach a top speed of 96 km/h and can travel 300km on a single electric charge. At the end of September in Changsha, Hunan province, where the electric bus is produced, a contract was signed for 1,000 electric K9 buses between BYD and the government of Changsha city. BYD’s first all-electric bus, the K9, will be put into service in the urban public transportation system.

BYD Green CitySolution

In China, there are 30 million passenger cars, of which approximately 1.2 million are taxis. The daily fuel consumption of taxis and buses is about 10 times and 30 times that of a family car, respectively. If all the gasoline taxis and buses in China were replaced by electric passenger cars and buses, the pollution equivalent to approximately 27 million traditional gasoline passenger cars can be saved. Starting with the application of its EVs (the e6 and the K9 shown at EVs 25) in public transportation systems, BYD cannot only help to alleviate the air pollution from car emissions, but can also greatly conserve energy. Besides electric vehicles, BYD can also provide the related services such as charging facilities, charging station monitoring systems and after-sale services as a one-stop-shop solution.
