KDC Solar has completed a 6.1MW solar photovoltaic (PV) system for the Lawrenceville School in New Jersey, US.
The photovoltaic system was developed by TurtleEnergy and features 24,934 SolarWorld solar panels mounted on single-axis trackers to maximize energy production.
KDC Solar purchased the system in 2011 and constructed the project as well as owns and maintains all of the solar equipment.
The power system, ground-mounted on 30 acres of school-owned farm land, will produce enough electricity to offset 90% of the high school's annual power needs.
The Lawrenceville School solar farm is designed to produce about 9,264,000kWh of solar electricity each year, enough to power the equivalent of around 800 typical American homes, and to offset 6,388 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
SolarWorld Americas president Kevin Kilkelly said, "A solar installation of this magnitude serves as an inspirational reminder to the Lawrenceville School's students and the surrounding community that we have the technology and ingenuity to solve our planet's most pressing environmental challenges."
Under a power purchase agreement, the electricity generated by the array will be sold to the Lawrenceville School, over the next two decades.
