published: 2023-01-13 9:30

On December 27, 2022, Liaoning Zhonghong New Energy held a ceremony to inaugurate its major anode manufacturing base in Shenbei New Area. The base will provide integrated manufacturing of anode materials used in Li-ion batteries. Shenbei New Area is an economic development zone within Shenyang, the capital of China’s Liaoning Province. According to the official development plan, the base is set to comprise 100,000 tons per year of production capacity for graphite anode materials, 50,000 tons per year of production capacity for silicon-carbon anode materials, a R&D center for advanced materials used in new energy applications, and a facility for assembling electrochemical energy storage equipment. The total investment in the base is estimated around RMB 10 billion.

Zhonghong signed the investment agreement for the base in March 2022. The base is being built in multiple phases. For the first phase, 1.2 billion is being invested to set up 10,000 tons per year of production capacity for anode materials. The first phase occupies an area of 252 mu and comprises facilities for carbonization, graphitization, and material production. The anode materials manufactured at the base will be used in the kinds of Li-ion batteries that are in very high demand at this moment, Examples include NEV power batteries and energy storage batteries that are deployed in wind and solar projects.

Liaoning Zhonghong New Energy is a new company that was established just in January 2022. It focuses on the development, manufacturing, and sales of anode materials used in Li-ion batteries. Its portfolio encompasses different kinds of graphite- and carbon-based anode materials as well as services related to energy storage solutions.
