China Customs PV Export Data Released in April

published: 2024-05-23 17:02

On May 21, China Customs updated its monthly export data.

Firstly, we summarize the PV main material export situation.

From January-April 2024, China's PV main material cumulative export totaled 12.969 billion U.S. dollars, compared with 19.552 billion U.S. dollars in the same period of last year, a year-on-year decline of 33.67%.

In April this year, China's wafers, cells, modules and other photovoltaic main materials to achieve a total of 3.129 billion U.S. dollars in exports, of which 277 million U.S. dollars of silicon rods and wafers, 193 million U.S. dollars of cells, photovoltaic modules 2.659 billion U.S. dollars.

The same period last year, China's photovoltaic main material main mouth of the higher base, totaling 5.023 billion U.S. dollars, of which silicon rods and wafers 581 million U.S. dollars, 414 million U.S. dollars of cells, photovoltaic modules 4.028 billion U.S. dollars.

In April this year compared to the same period last year, the total amount of PV main material exports and wafers, cells, modules exports, down 37.71% and 52.32%, 53.38%, 33.99% respectively.

From the ring point of view, in March this year, China's exports of photovoltaic products 3.489 billion U.S. dollars in April ring than the previous month fell by 10.32%.

With the increasing competition in the industry, the recent record low prices of photovoltaic products. Affected by this, China's photovoltaic main material export amount in April, there is an accelerated downward trend.

At the same time, China's photovoltaic main export volume, in continue to maintain a medium-high growth trend.

From January to April this year, China's photovoltaic products export volume (weight) totaled 6,543,700 tons, compared with 5,751,000 tons in the same period last year, an increase of 13.78%.

Among them, the main photovoltaic materials in April this year to achieve exports of 1.65 million tons, compared with 1.4991 million tons in the same period last year, an increase of 10.06%.

The foreign export of inverter showed the trend of volume increase and price rise, and the inverter products showed obvious overseas bargaining power.

From January to April 2024, the cumulative total export of China's inverters amounted to 2.314 billion U.S. dollars, compared with 4.106 billion U.S. dollars in the same period last year, a decline of 42.64%.

In April this year, China's inverter exports of 694 million U.S. dollars, down 30.46%. However, it is encouraging to see that China's inverter exports have stopped the decline, compared with $603 million in March this year, an increase of 15.09%.

In addition, China's inverter products, showing strong product bargaining power.

Similarly, the export volume of China's inverters can be judged from the weight of exported goods.

From January to April 2024, the cumulative export volume (weight) of China's inverter products was 92,500 tons, compared with 129,700 tons in the same period last year, a decrease of 28.68%.

Among them, the export volume (weight) of China's inverter products in April this year was 27,100 tons, compared with 31,500 tons in the same period last year, down 13.97%, compared with 23,700 tons in March this year, up 14.35%.

The above data fully illustrates that in April this year, with the speed of overseas installation, China's inverter exports showed a warming trend of volume increase and price rise.

From the point of view of overseas market distribution, the Asian market has become the first overseas PV market in the statistical sense.

From January to April this year, China exported 6.389 billion U.S. dollars of photovoltaic main materials to Asia, compared with 6.875 billion U.S. dollars in the same period last year, a slight decrease of 7%. From the weight of exported goods, China's cumulative exports to Asia 3,763,900 tons, compared with 2,977,100 tons in the same period last year, a jump of 26.53%.

From January to April this year, China exported 4.487 billion U.S. dollars of photovoltaic main material to Europe, compared with 9.134 billion U.S. dollars in the same period last year, a drop of 50.88%. From the weight of exported goods, January-April China's cumulative exports to Europe 1,938,800 tons, compared with 1,975,300 tons in the same period last year, a slight decline of 1.85%.

However, contrary to the proportion of PV exports, the inverter export data shows that Europe is actually still China's photovoltaic overseas top market.

From January to April this year, China's exports to Asia inverter products 742 million U.S. dollars, compared with 620 million U.S. dollars in the same period last year, an increase of 19.68%. During the same period, China's exports to Europe inverter products 928 million U.S. dollars, compared with 2.648 billion U.S. dollars in the same period last year, a decline of 64.95%.

Although the export of inverters to Europe waist cut are more than, but the European inverter market is still significantly stronger than Asia. This is because, photovoltaic main material for Asia's exports, a considerable part of the Southeast Asian production capacity. This part of the wafers, cells produced by the photovoltaic module, will eventually be installed in the United States and other markets, rather than the Asian countries.

Southeast Asian PV production capacity is mainly digested by the U.S. demand. Therefore, the size of the Asian photovoltaic market, currently from the nature did not completely exceed the European market.
