The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) and Brazil's Apex-Brasil (APEX) signed an memorandum of understanding for cooperation in promoting "forum on Brazil PV power market" on Sept. 20, including exchange of major business information and opportunities, exchange of market-study and trade data, dissemination of information on related exhibitions and conventions, and assistance to trade representatives of each other.

The MOU was inked under the witness of Lin Fang-miao, deputy secretary general of the TAITRA, and Fábio Franco, director of the Commercial Office of Brazil to Taipei. Lin Fang-miao noted that APEX-Brasi is Brazil's most important trade and investment promotional institution, serving over 100,000 Brazilian enterprises, with functions quite similar to those of the TAITRA, adding that the TAITRA will take advantage of the MOU in helping Taiwanese enterprises tap the Brazilian market.

Fábio Franco looked forward to a closer cooperation between the enterprises of Taiwan and Brazil, citing the example of PV power whose development will receive a strong boost via combination of Taiwan's experience and technology and Brazil's abundant solar resources.=

Statistics show that Brazil was Taiwan's largest trade partner in Latin America in 2017, when Taiwan's exports to Brazil reached US$1.265 billion, compared with US$2.598 billion of imports from Brazil, leaving an imbalance of US$1.333 billion in Brazil's favor. A number of major Taiwanese enterprises have established marketing offices or production bases in Brazil over the past 10 years, including Foxconn, Asus, Acer, and Gigabyte.
