According to EnergyTrend,ZOE Energy Storage announced on May 20 a joint venture with a local Saudi strategic partner to build the country’s first world-class battery energy storage manufacturing base.

The first phase is designed with an annual capacity of 6 GWh and is expected to be completed and put into operation in the first quarter of 2027. The second phase will expand the total capacity to 18 GWh.

Covering an area of 150 mu, the smart manufacturing base adopts top-tier European manufacturing standards. Its products will obtain "Made in Saudi Arabia" certification and fully comply with local power grid specifications, serving markets across the six Gulf countries, the Middle East, North Africa, Central Asia and Africa. A green energy academy will also be established onsite to cultivate internationally certified professionals.

Saudi Arabia is pressing ahead with energy transition and has emerged as a major growth hub for the global energy storage sector. Its vast market potential keeps drawing accelerated investment from storage enterprises worldwide. Leveraging strengths in technology, production capacity and cost competitiveness, Chinese firms have built a multi-layered presence covering equipment supply, project execution and local factory construction.

Apart from ZOE Energy Storage’s 18 GWh manufacturing project, CORNEX sealed a deal with Saudi Arabia’s Al Rajhi Electrical in February 2026. It will supply energy storage products and comprehensive technical support for local plant construction, with a commitment to deliver 5.5 GWh of products within three years for regional local manufacturing and project deployment.

Chinese enterprises also hold a dominant share in large-scale energy storage project supply in Saudi Arabia.

BYD Energy Storage has secured cumulative signed and cooperative projects totaling 15.1 GWh, including the world’s 12.5 GWh mega energy storage facility. Sungrow signed a 7.8 GWh energy storage project covering three sites in July 2024, which has achieved full-capacity grid connection.
